Luck Be A Lady - Seal

Song review

Seal has always been one of my favourite male vocalists. I had the pleasure of seeing him live at The Symphony Hall in Birmingham last year, and I thought he was fantastic. His voice sounded a lot better live than it did in the recording studio and he was full of charisma. I loved how he was talking to the audience and telling them to get involved. It was a wonderful experience and I was truly sad that we had to leave and go back to the hotel after the concert was over. He was a true gentleman and I hope to see him live again soon!

His international hit, Kiss From A Rose has always been and remains my all time favourite song. Ever since hearing that song, I've been a follower of his albums, and it's hard to believe that his album System was released ten years ago. Gosh, where did the time go?

A few days ago Seal released his cover of Luck Be A Lady online and it's a return to his jazzy sound from Soul and Soul 2. His last studio album, 7 was an emotional album that followed the breakdown of his marriage to Heidi Klum. He's now back with a collection of Rat Pack era song covers, and the album, Standards, is due to be released on November 10th.

Judging by his cover of Luck Be A Lady, it seems that Seal has had a lot of fun. It also shows a couple of changes, first of all, he is no longer signed with Warner Bros. Records and is looking for a newer and fresher way to bring out music.

Seal describes Standards as the album that he's always wanted to create, as he's grown up with a lot of the songs he sings on here. Luck Be A Lady has always been a wonderful song and I think Seal does it justice because it really suits his voice and he sounds like he's having a lot of fun embracing his new artistic freedom.

The song is very easy going and full of swing. When I was thinking of this song, I was thinking of my friend, Laura, from work, cause I know she loves Jazz music. She's on holiday at the moment, but I will send her a link to this song because I think she will really love this.

The song is so pleasant to listen to and I love how Seal has brought a whole new life to these timeless classics just like he did with the songs in Soul and Soul 2. Perhaps you could consider this album as Soul 3 in a way. But I guess they were looking for more creative album titles–doesn't bother me, as long as the music is good. And I always know that Seal will bring out more great music in the future whether it will be original or a cover.

Alongside this song, he's also released the song, It Was A Very Good Year. This is also a pretty nice song and I think Seal's vocals blend well with the lyrics. Hearing both of these songs makes me very excited to hear the new Seal album. Normally albums consisting of covers bore me, but there are some rare exceptions and Seal is one of them. I believe that covers shouldn't be a carbon copy of the original or something you would expect from a karaoke bar, I believe covers should be faithful to the original, but also add the cover artist's own twist to the song or bring the songs to life again, and I think Seal does and has always done this.
