The Genius That Is Bruno Mars

Love or hate the music, respect the man.

I'm going to start off by saying I am a Bruno Mars SUPERFAN. I received free tickets to his 24K Magic Tour from Spotify (shout out to Spotify) because I literally listen to him everyday. It's just a part of my routine now to put on 24K Magic and jam.

Well, it's not just the music for me. It's the man behind the music. Now it's no surprise to me that people don't enjoy his music. It's pop music (which is so uncool to listen to these days), he wears leather sweatsuits, and can be a bit cheesy. I have always enjoyed Bruno, but was a bit of a skeptic myself, until I watched his 60 Minutes interview that aired in November of 2016. He talks with Lara Logan about how he was broke, busted, and nearly homeless. I had no idea he had gone through these hardships. This sounds like a tough life in my opinion, yet he spoke about his time being homeless with his dad and brother with a smile on his face. He said it was one of the best times in his life, and obviously this taught him how to appreciate everything he has. Bruno Mars is truly a rags to riches story, yet no one knows this. He just smiles, comes out, and gets groovy with his band. There is no complaining coming from the MJ of our generation (yes I said it!).

However, beyond his awesome personality, there is a quality music maker! I'd like to be the first to say that this man can SING!!! People don't really pay attention to his singing because he is equally as good a performer and entertainer (and has the grooviest band). The boy has pipes and he works freaking hard. The man doesn't quit! "Uptown Funk" his smash hit with Mark Ronson, was in the trashcan 10 times before it was released! He worked and worked on that song with his crew until it became a pop SENSATION. Love or hate it, you know the chorus. Also, the man is multi-talented. He can sing, dance, plays guitar and piano, and is a wonderful performer. Also, his band is the bomb. Seeing him live was practically a religious experience for me. However, I'm a super fan so I think for all you normal people, it would be a great time. Most of the auditorium didn't sit down for the first FOUR songs of his set. I couldn't believe it! But how can you sit down when the funk is travelling in your soul? All you can do is dance, and Bruno Mars will definitely get you to do that.

I truly believe that Bruno Mars is one of the greatest artists our generation has/will see. He talks about how all music is about love. All I know is that I love his music, and it always can put a smile on my face. We as a generation have to remember the value of funk music and that it's not all just trumpets and meaningless lyrics. It's about the soul behind the music and the feeling it gives you. Whether you are a toe tapper, or you love to bust a move on the dance floor, Bruno Mars music can satisfy both and everything in between. Even if you don't like the hits, listen to the other tracks on all 3 of his albums. I promise it'll put a pep in your step.

Alright, my love letter to Bruno Mars is over. However, I hope you actually give this guy a listen because even though he is a pop star, I truly believe there is a song by him for all 7.4+ billion humans on this planet.

Oh and did I mention he's a great dancer? Don't believe me, just watch.
