A Beautiful Summer's Calling

1. "Seasons" by 6LACK ft. Khalid

"Seasons" is the 13th song from the album East Atlanta Love Letter by 6LACK released in 2018. This gorgeous track also features vocals from Khalid which I believe also fits in the summertime mood I get from this song. With lyrics such as "A beautiful summer's calling," (a metaphor meaning better things coming in the future) how could you not miss that summer, and crave a wonderful future?

2. "Summer" by The Carters

"Summer" is the first song on Everything is Love which is the Jay-Z and Beyoncé album released under the name The Carters in summer of 2018. In my opinion, this is a perfect way to begin a summer album. "Let's make love in the summertime" will forever be a mood no matter what the season.

3. "Summer" by BROCKHAMPTON

"Summer" is the last track (number 16) on the album Saturation II of the Saturation trilogy by the hip-hop group BROCKHAMPTON. This song has not only the lyrics, but a sound that perfectly captures summer with more elongated, slower vocals and a sweet guitar.

4. "Slide" by Calvin Harris ft. Frank Ocean and Migos

"Slide" is the first song on the album Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1 by Calvin Harris. This release from the summer of 2017 includes Frank Ocean and Migos. Each verse includes lyrics of late night parties that are perfect for that summer party feel. Even the single cover and audio video on YouTube included a tropical plants in front of a beach. If that does not make someone miss summer, I do not know what will.

5. "Summer Pack" by Childish Gambino

"The Summer Pack" is an extended play by Childish Gambino released the summer of 2018. It included the two songs "Summertime Magic" and "Feels Like Summer." If it is not self explanatory, these songs are definitely magical when it comes to making people miss summer. A personal favorite line in "Summertime Magic" is "Is it summertime magic that makes me want to dance all night long?"

6. "Palm Trees" by GoldLink

"Palm Trees" is the eighth track on the second mixtape by GoldLink titled After That We Didn't Talk. This song is the definition of that one summertime relationship. It it very easy to vibe with and miss those summer nights.

7. "World-A-Music" by Ini Kamoze

For a classic reggae addition to this list, "World-A-Music" is one of my favorites to listen to during the summer or when I miss summer. This song is the fifth track on the album "Here Comes the Hotstepper" which was released in 1995. In my opinion, there are tons of reggae songs that feel like summer just from the light and more cheerful sound that comes with them. This song however, is one that specifically reminds me of chill summer nights.

8. "Summer Nights" by Iration

It is obvious why this song is on the list, but it is not the only Iration song I would like to shine light on. This band just has an over all summertime feel, which they express not only instrumentally and lyrically, but also in style. "Summer Nights" is the fifth track on "Fresh Grounds" released in 2011. My favorite album though, is Time Bomb from 2010, because the majority of the tracks from it have that strong summer theme.

9. "Analog 2" by Odd Future

This Odd Future song is the seventh track on The OF Tape Vol. 2 released in 2012. It includes vocals from Tyler, the Creator, Syd, and Frank Ocean. The lyrics of this song remind me of those summer days where I am just trying to find a way to hang out with that one person on my mind.

"Can you meet me by the lake, at the park, or in your room?"

10. Literally Any Song by Sublime

Sublime is not only one of my very favorite bands, but also another with a discography with an enormous summertime feel. Lyrics in Sublime songs are often just about life and love in Long Beach, California. Each song makes me want to drive down the freeway with the windows down on a hot summer day.
