Art vs Alcohol (And other drugs)
Drugs and art have a complicated ebb and flow within our society. Drugs in the mainstream are, of course, a massive taboo for a variety of reasons. Ranging from legal alcohol to soft drugs like cannabis, and then to the potentially devastating likes of crystal meth and heroin. All of which serve their purpose as an escape from reality to a degree, while vulnerable people often fall into habits of usage, their using is often hidden behind a variety of excuses to validate their consumption.

Analysing my favourite scene from Inglorious Basterds
Full spoilers ahead. Tarantino's 2009 offering is an interesting case for long-term fans of his work. The usual format is there; whip-fast witticisms by characteristic and distinctive characters who lean in and out of the plot in adventures that could be stand-alone films in the hand of lesser directors, and a penchant for violence and unexpected death scenes. However, although its differences to the rest of the auteurs work are fairly surface-level, many people seemed rather alienated by the film when it was first released. There are many people out there who recognise it as a great film, but dismiss it as an average Tarantino film, which absolutely does not do it the justice it deserves.

Top Ten Greatest Original Film SoundtracksTop Story - November 2017
What makes a great soundtrack? Well, silly, it's something that enhances the film. It encourages imminent dread, or makes that final kiss actually mean something. Think about some of the scariest, happiest, tensest and sexiest moments, then imagine them all with no soundtrack. Unless it's Blair Witch Project, it would probably just sound kind of jarring and creepy.
