Avril Lavigne Albums - Worst to Best

'Head Above Water' is here but how does it stack up against Avril's previous albums?

The Winner?

This article is one of three I've done on Avril's music. When you're done here, feel free to check out the others here.

6. 'Avril Lavigne'

No Good

This album feels more like an Avril Lavigne parody or knock off than it should. That doesn't mean there isn't any good songs on it, just not as good as it should be and a little bit like someone fell off the rails. Even the less out there cuts are mostly forgettable.

Best Songs: "Here's To Never Growing Up" and "Bad Girl"

5. 'Goodbye Lullaby'

They're all decent from here in.

Avril's fourth album lets the punchy pop punk vibes go for the most part, replaced with songs that are nearer to pop ballads than teen anthems. A couple songs still provide a punch, however, and if it wasn't for the fact half of this album feels like a missed opportunity it would likely place higher on the list.

"Alice" was one of the better parts of the 2010 Alice in Wonderland film though.

Best Songs: "What The Hell" "Wish You Were Here" "Smile" "I Love You" "Alice"

4. 'Head Above Water'

The Newest Contender

Avril's latest album is a great improvement on the last one and I think it even pushes out Goodbye Lullaby. It doesn't quite reach the height of the first three albums but it's still a decent album all round.

Best Songs: "Birdie" "I Fell In Love With The Devil" "Souvenir" "Goddess"

3. 'Let Go'

If you're reading this, then this is more than likely a big part of your childhood

Avril's first album is deep hit after deep hit. About half the album is absolutely banging singles but there's only really "Sk8er Boi" that has the angry, fuck you vibes that I love in an Avril song. "I'm with You" is still one of my favourite songs ever. However, as good as this album is for some reason, it just doesn't quite match the next two.

Best Songs: "Losing Grip" "Complicated" "Sk8er Boi' "I'm with You" "Unwanted"

2. 'Under My Skin'

This album got Under My Skin, ayyyy.

I'm aware I've just made a controversial move but hear me out.

This album does blend the styles of Let Go and The Best Damn Thing pretty well and basically every song absolutely bangs. It's a really great album and is almost undoubtedly the best album. But alas there's something about The Best Damn Thing that gets me.

We're still in an era of sad sounding and sad feeling songs here, with a few angrier, more upbeat songs thrown in.

I love it and I'm all for it.

Best Songs: "Don't Tell Me" "He Wasn't" "My Happy Ending" "Nobody's Home' "Forgotten"

1. 'The Best Damn Thing'

My Number One

Alright, look.

This album might be a little rough around the edges but it's so in-your-face, it's basically confidence fuel.

Try and tell me "Girlfriend" wasn't all over your life for far too long.

Almost the whole album is punchy and upbeat, whether Avril's celebrating herself or telling you to get fucked.

That doesn't mean when the songs slow down and up their meaning they don't absolutely slap. "When You're Gone" and "Innocence" are gold and you know it.

Best Songs: "Girlfriend" "The Best Damn Thing" "When You're Gone" "Everything Back But You" "Hot" "Innocence"

Thank you!
