Paying Tribute to the Late Dolores O'Riordan and the Legacy She Left Behind
On January 15, 2018 the world lost a beloved singer Dolores O’Riordan of the Cranberries. The Cranberries are most famously known for their chart-topping song "Zombie." "Zombie" was written about the trying times of violence in the UK and trying to make sense of the violence that surrounded the world at that time and times before then. Dolores wrote the song about two boys who were killed in the bombing in Warrington, England.
On January 15, 2018 Dolores O’Riordan was set to go into the studio with heavy metal rock group Bad Wolves, and re-record vocal tracks for a rendition of the famous song. Dolores loved the band's version of the song so much, that she wanted to add her own touch of magic to it. Dolores never made it to the studio due to a suddenly unexpected death. The band never got to record with the legend and was left to decide on what the next move was going to be. Do they release the song without her or drop the project as a whole?
On January 19, 2018 Bad Wolves released their rendition of the song in hopes to keep the name of Dolores O’Riordan close and dear to people’s hearts. They vowed to donate the proceeds to Dolores’ children and embrace the honor of having her approval for the song. The band stayed true to the original sound of the Cranberries with minor adjustment to lyrics. This rendition is one of the greatest covers of a song that I have heard in a long time. With over seventeen million views on YouTube and over six million streams on Spotify, Bad Wolves have made a name for themselves in the world of cover songs.
In the original version the lyrics went as followed: “It's the same old theme since nineteen-sixteen in your head, in your head, they're still fightin.”
Bad Wolves changed the lyrics to read: “It's the same old theme in two thousand eighteen.”
The lyrics both embody and express the comparison of the different yet similar lifestyles that that world lives in today. Though the years have come and gone, the world is still struggling with one common issue, violence. With the recent March for Our Lives, and other movements going on around the world against violence, Bad Wolves kept the key point to the original song.
The band also paid tribute to Dolores by addressing her death in their video. You see a women dressed as Dolores from the Cranberries music video FOR "Zombie."
Zombies are known to the world as a fictional creature that just kill anything alive because they don’t have brains or thoughts or control over anything. The point of the song is to question those who actively seek violence to solve all issues that the world may bring about. If those who kill just to kill are not in control of their minds or their actions, then they must be a zombie because that would be the only logical reasoning behind the unnecessary violence in the world as we know it.
I recommend each one of you to take a listen to the song if you have not yet and allow yourself to bask in the greatness of what is and always will be Dolores O’Riordan.

Logic: 'Bobby Tarantino II' Review
After the success of his hit single "1-800-273-8255" ft. Alessia Cara and Khalid, there are a lot of expectations from the rapper for his following album Everybody. Everybody left some fans disappointed and others in awe. No one heard that Logic was going to drop a new album until just 48 hours prior to. Logic dropped his album Bobby Tarantino II on March 9, 2018 and I have listened to it three times through already. Logic takes us back to his mixtape days with an album that he describes as “An unapologetically fun project that balances wisdom and wit.” Bobby Tarantino was the work that Logic released after his album that took him to the charts The Incredible True Story, so Logic takes us back to the art that he was creating before pop rap took the charts. For those of you who don’t know, Bobby is one of Logic’s nicknames, so the mixtape is supposed to give us the synopsis of his life since Bobby Tarantino came about. Personally, I am a Logic fan and supporter, and I believe that he one of the most underrated rap artists in that genre of his time. I’ll take you through each song of the album and walk you through some lyrics that stood out to me. Enjoy!

Frankie's Song of the Week: Espresso - Sabrina Carpenter
A little something different from me while I deal with the strain of writers block. I thought I'd do a song of the week, because I have been surely annoying my neighbours and my friends with this absolute musical GEM. I am of course talking about Espresso by Sabrina Carpenter.

Uncle Vanya.
For the modern theater lover "Uncle Vanya" at Lincoln Center's Vivian Beaumont Theater may very well be for you. This "Vanya" is not the typical play by Chekhov; in its new rendition by Heidi Schreck, we get more modern language, modern costumes (Kaye Voyce) and modern direction by Lila Neugebauer. Vanya (Steve Carell) has spent most of his life farming the land so that Alexander (Alfred Molina) can carry on with his art studies as a celebrated professor and teacher. Both Molina and Carell as well as Alison Pill as Sonya are standouts in this production, laying waste to all the other actors in the cast. Where the sound resonates in this well appointed theater (Mikhail Fiksel and Beth Lake), the sets by Mimi Lien are unimpressive. Lap Chi Chu gives us the support on lighting and her moods vary well amongst this two hours and fifteen minutes. "Uncle Vanya" is slow at times, very slow due to Neugebauer's direction. Actors don't always blend well causing pockets of weakness in the dialogue. Both William Jackson Harper as Astrov and Anika Noni Rose as Elena cannot hold the stage nor the attention of the audience. Since the show is put in modern language, these two actors appear more like people in the inner city rather than stage professionals; even their body language goes anathema to this great classic. In a slow-go of this play, the show does pick up almost half way through the first act. The dialogue and the melding of characters never fully catches its stride however. We get a mesh-mosh of thoughts, feelings and adversity, but the true feelings are never brought to the forefront emotionally. At the end of the play we get to hear Vanya rant about his feelings, how he gave up his life for the farm which is weakly portrayed at the back of the theater. The audience never feels his pain as Carell holds back and we never feel the strong emotions. More comedic than serious, he is at his best when the show has him bantering about. In Voyce's costumes we get both the elegant and the mundane. Never overwhelmed by the garb, it fades away like much of this play does. For the modern theater lover, however, there are a lot of things in this show that you will like. The sets which never really blend with the show are intricate and give meaning to the modern. The deft sound keeps the play eery at times especially with the reverbs at different times during the performance. The backdrop in the second act is clever even though it is difficult to sift through the conventional writings of Chekhov... it goes against the grain of what we have seen in the past. "Uncle Vayna" is a mixed bag and is not for everyone, it takes the conventional completely out of the picture and puts us in the new world of modern.
