For those of you who don't know, Demi Lovato is a Singer and Actress born in Dallas, Texas who first burst into the limelight along with co-star - Selena Gomez on Barney and friends at the age of seven years old. Although this was just the beginning for the young starlet. After appearances on the Disney channel show 'Saved by the Bell' and 'CSI NY'. The singer/actress auditioned for Camp Rock and her life was completely changed over night.

With all this success, Demi quickly saw herself touring with the Jonas Brothers and writing songs for her first album (Don't Forget') and even gaining her hit show 'Sonny with a Chance' on Disney Channel as well as a sequel to Camp Rock - 'Camp Rock 2'. With the movies, the tour and her album, came a lot of work for Demi who was just sixteen years old at the time. Her world slowly began crumbling down when she was caught cutting herself due to depression. She was very underweight and losing more and more weight every day, rapidly putting her life in danger and was found to be partying every night which involved the use of cocaine and other drug substances. She also spoke about having suicidal thoughts which was found to be the cause of her bipolar disorder she was diagnosed with after seeking help.

Demi and Miley Cyrus both admitted to having tried marijuana with the Jonas brothers and Selena Gomez to which Demi states she enjoyed the rush and her drug habits had begun from there. She states that her late Father Patrick Lovato was a negative influence on her being an alcoholic and says she thinks she looked for in drugs what he had because he chose that over a family.

Demi also states in this documentary that she was constantly bullied and called fat and that she had no friends and had to be home schooled due to all of it. She began purging at an early age soon after and began self-harming. Demi also states that she would look at pictures of super-skinny models in magazines and convinced herself that's what she needed to aspire to be. From all the negative influences throughout her life, the bulimia and drug abuse got bigger and bigger until things needed to be changed. When Demi was given an ultimatum by her manager that she either got her act together or him and all the crew were leaving and dropping her from the label, she gave into treatment because the one thing she needed in her life were the people she cared about. She especially took the help because of the threat from her Mother of not being able to see her younger sister again.

A close friend of Demi's and background dancer who was publicly assaulted by Demi on a private jet had told her Manager that she had been hiding and taking drugs which started their feud to begin with. Demi admits to having smuggled drugs onto airplanes and sneakily taking them in the aircraft toilets and admits to nearly overdosing which no one knew about. During all this time is when Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez had drifted apart who were best friends for years and even had their own YouTube channel. It's unclear whether the split was caused by Demi's downward spiral or Selena's new found friends, although Demi refuses to talk about that subject and simply states it was due to growing up and people changing. Still, when Selena found out her estranged BFF was in rehab she called her crying hysterically and worried for the young stars' well-being and both state to this day that they care about each other and what happens to one another.

Demi has been on the road to recovery for over ten years now and says that everyday is a battle with her demons and even rehab is no quick fix for anyone who battles with any sort of addiction. She also states in the documentary that after breaking up with ex-boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama that she instantly had to make herself sick. She states that her battle with bulimia is the most difficult and is envious of others having happy relationships with food.

Demi released a book of quotes called 'Staying Strong' when in her recovery, she also released the album 'Unbroken' with ballads like - 'For the Love of a Daughter' in regards to her father as well as the song title 'Unbroken' which was a reflection of her addictions and mental health. Soon after she then received the news for The X Factor USA offering her A judge role and was reported to have been paid around $1000,000. She states she is focusing on music and her hobby MMA (mixed martial arts) and says that MMA is like a meditation for her and hobby which takes her mind off the negative.

Demi soon found love with Wilmer Valderrama but broke up in 2017 on a mutual agreement when Demi said she needed to find herself and who she is as a person and admits to never really being on her own or living on her own. She says that it was time in her life to be alone for a while. I guess if you love something you really should let it go.

Through all of this Demi now owns half of a mental health facility and is an advocate for mental health as well as an anti-bullying ambassador with such awards. She was also nominated for a Grammy in 2016 for her hit album 'Confident' running up against the likes of 'Adele' and has just recently released her new album 'Tell Me You Love Me' with songs relating to her past relationships with drugs, ex-lovers and like previous albums - songs aimed at her late father. She is now dedicated to making music but says she may go back to acting if the right role comes along.

For anyone that is not a fan of Demi Lovato, you can't deny the sheer strength and will-power she has had through the years, as well as the determination for change and self-love.
