Female Artists Showing Us a New Wave of Sound
Your Music Soul Sisters
The following artists are a few of my favourites. Ranging from soft indie to dance folk/pop, these gals are making it big, or for sure will be in the near future.
Album: Heard It In A Past Life
Songs to start you off: "Burning," "Falling Water"
What can I say that Pharrell hasn't already said in the viral video that was her real big break (although she definitely shouldn't only be known for that). With her first hit "Alaska," we could already hear her innovative production style and pretty much a whole new genre of dance folk/pop that will for sure make you want to get up and move... like in that embarrassing way when nobody's watching. All of her songs will make you feel more alive and connected to nature and the world around you. Also, if you have the chance, go see her live! One of the best live performers I've ever seen.
King Princess
EP: Make My Bed
Songs to start you off: "1950," "Talia," "Pussy is God"
She only just started releasing music in 2018, but with just an EP and a single released, I haven't been disappointed with a single song. I don't know how she does it, but she has created some of the most catchy phrases I've ever heard. Her music sounds delicate, while having some groovy beats. Not to mention how much of a total badass she is alongside her lyrics. Please give her a listen.
Lennon Stella
EP:Love, me
Songs to start you off: "La Di Da," "Breakaway"
If you watched the show Nashville, you probably recognize this one. Lennon, named after the John Lennon, was first discovered when posting YouTube covers with her younger sister Maisy, known as Lennon & Maisy, and were soon after cast on the show where they continued to sing together. Lennon just released her first EP, and it is simply cool. She brings indie vibes with a hint of pop to create some true bops. Her vocal tone is so pure with rasp and vocal breaks that bring effortless beauty to her sound. Her live performance style is mesmerizing and will keep you locked in the moment.
Phoebe Bridgers
Album: Stranger In The Alps
Songs to start you off: "Motion Sickness," "Smoke Signals"
Out of all these artists, Phoebe definitely has a more chill vibe. With true storytelling lyrics and such a calming voice, her music will put you in a dream-like state. Although very melancholic, her songs still manage to have an extremely catchy chorus. If you're ready to be "in your feels," this is for you. If anything, you can for sure add her music to your rainy day playlist.
These are only a few of the female artists I've grown to love that are really changing the music game for me right now, and are huge musical inspirations of mine
If you want to hear more, I have many playlists on my Spotify with a range of artists like these, and other genres. Feel free to check them out and follow. :)
