First Live Performances of BlackPink's 2018 Comeback

BlackPink in Your Area

Before we've seen a music video for BlackPink's second announced title track for their mini album, Square Up, we have the privilege of seeing their choreography. The record-shattering girl group has performed their single, "Forever Young," on MBC's Music Bank.

The choreography starts with an immediate BlackPink trademark: all the girls lying down on one another. Remember that crowd-pleasing visual in Boombayah? Of course you do. The opening choreography for "Forever Young" is total fan service just like that legendary move.

The girls' outfits are amazing, as the world has come to expect of BlackPink. If there was ever an intended theme for this concept, I'm sure it's something along the lines of "The Game."

Immediately you see a lot of blue. Each member's outfit is monochromatic with blue and white. It pulls the different styles together, which are very different but all tell a clear story.

BlackPink Running The Game

Not singing the Blues. Just wearing them.

Jennie, who has been training with YG longer than her fellow members, is dressed distinctively like the sexiest referee on the entire planet, but a referee nonetheless. She is literally running the game, calling the shots. I'm not the biggest sports fan but I'm pretty sure everyone has to listen to a referee, who enforces all the rules.

Lisa, on the right in the above screenshot, almost looks as though she's dressed like a football player. That blue shrug embellishes her shoulders like she's in gear, ready to run the plays and be the MVP that her fans believe her to be. As the main dancer, she surely is energetic like an athlete. I think this look suits her and is on trend with the kind of fashion-forward styling she is known for.

Rosé can be seen resting her head on Jennie's flawless hips while Lisa looks comfortable with her head on Rosé's famous curves. She is wearing perhaps the most fetching outfit on that stage, which is a dress so short it is basically just a shirt. Again, Rosé is known to usually be wearing ultra short, form-fitting clothes like this. Her amazing body boasts a tiny waist, so I'm sure the stylists want to showcase her beautiful shape. The mini dress is laced up both sides like she's the ball! Either that, or she's dressed in the role of super popular, trendy girl watching the game from the bleachers, turning heads with her bold clothing and stunning looks.

Jisoo, as usual, is dressed like the delicate flower that her visuals would have you believe she is. She almost looks like the cheerleader for whatever game this concept is referring to! Cheerleaders are usually pretty, popular girls and that is pretty close to what Jisoo is, only she has wicked dance moves that most cheerleaders can't pull off. It's awesome to see the lovely Jisoo going hard and rocking her body, dressed like a tiny cheerleader!

Aside from the clothes, there were some unexpected lyrics in Forever Young! Instead of hearing the iconic chant, "BlackPink in your area," there was a dance break in which the back track played what sounded like Jennie saying, "BlackPink. It's the revolution."

Wow! Just wow!

And it's true, too! BlackPink are basically revolutionizing Kpop as we know it. Other top girl groups have got to step up their game in all categories if they are to have even a modicum of hope in keeping up with BlackPink. I mean, their first music video of their 2018 comeback just came out 24 hours ago and already has 40 million views on BlackPink's official YouTube channel alone! I'm not 100 percent sure yet whether or not that is yet another record the group has set, but I'm willing to bet good money that it is.

On the same stage, during the same broadcast, in the same outfits they wore in the opening scene of the new music video, BlackPink also gave their first live, televised performance of Ddu-du Ddu-du. This is huge, because it is the first time we get to see the full dance uninterrupted.

It. Is. Awesome.

I am very much looking forward to YG releasing the dance practice videos for both these new songs. I'm sure the views on those will skyrocket in the first few hours as well, and break even more records.

As always, Blinks and non-Blinks alike, thank you for reading.
