Have you heard of Gabe Fleck yet? Well, if not, you are MISSING OUT. With over 200,000 Spotify listeners, this Portland artist is quickly leaving a mark on the music industry, with no intent on stopping. The inspirational artist writes music with the intent to inspire his listeners, and he has been doing just that. Gabe inspires his audience to not only be themselves, but to do what they love. Fleck’s influences range from Mac Miller, Kid Cudi, Frank Ocean, Bob Dylan, and James Blake. We spoke to Gabe about his life, his music, and this is what YOU need to know!

Amanda: You recently came out with a new music video in December for “I Want to Be With Myself,” what was it like shooting that video and what inspired the concept?

Gabe: Blade Runner and the magic of Alexander Robino working with probably the best film crew in Portland, Oregon.

How do you find yourself to be different from other artists today?

I prefer quality over quantity with my craft. I’m not plugging my shit constantly and over-marketing myself. I think that comes with getting older though. I’ve learned that there’s no pressure to put anything out and there’s always time to take the time required.

How did you start out in music?

My grandma bought me a Jimi Hendrix CD around the same time my mom bought me my first guitar. I wanted to be like him because he made playing guitar so damn cool.

What gives you motivation when you write music?

Experiences for sure. I can educate myself on events and emotions, but I don’t think I have a better grasp over things until I experience them. The deeper the experience, the more soulful the tune usually. Also, self-reflection is a major important factor in writing. Understanding yourself breeds success in anything I think.

Describe a day in the life of Gabe Fleck.

Right now I get up and walk across the Hawthorne Bridge to work in the city of Portland, Oregon. Things are busy at work and I’d describe my current workflow as the crying Michael Jordan meme. But I usually come back around six, workout, and cook myself a somewhat nutritious meal. Weekends are a completely different story...

Describe the lineup of a show that you would love to be a part of.

February 22nd will be a dream come true and a romance realized! I’ll be closing the lineup of Nosila and Jame, two fellow songwriters here in the city of Portland. But if we’re talking bigger acts, I might die if I ever had the honor of sharing a line up with HER.

What can we expect from you in the future?

Just about anything! I’ll be showing up in a commercial soon hopefully, got the show near the end of February, collaborations, and the never-ending task of assembling ideas to record. But also, don’t be surprised if it’s a minute before anything comes about. Right now I’m steady reflecting on myself, while also trying to support other local acts. When I’m good, my product is even better. Quality over quantity always baby!

Stay tuned because the future is very big for Gabe Fleck.
