About the makers:

  • Liam Gallagher: William Gallagher, former singer of Oasis, now making music as a solo. He has a unique voice, style and attitude, making him one of the most important singers of rock music history. His last album As you Were was released the 6 of October of 2017. He was also voted as the greatest frontman of all time in 2010 in a reader poll of Q magazine. More about his last album and products please visit: http://liamgallagher.com
  • Alexandra Palace: an iconic north London venue that first opened in 1863, it has survived two fires and hosted the first ever television broadcast, it has a history of more than 140 years. A park called Ally Pally surrounds the venue and it has one of the most beautiful views of London, making it a venue that provides a lot of experiences and possibilities for holding different kinds of events. The experience: That day I was in class. It finished at 8PM and the concert was going to start soon, but it was supposed to take me more-or-less one hour to get there. When I arrived to New Cross Gate station, one of the men that worked there told me that it was closed and that I needed to go to New Cross. It was more-or-less a ten minute walk and the next train was going to leave in five minutes, so I ran and got there just in time. After this I switched to another train that ended up being delayed. Yes “extreme weather” in London makes transportation almost impossible. It took 90 minutes to arrive at Alexandra Palace, so I just had the chance to see half of the concert.

When I was walking to the entrance I heard the music and heart started bumping faster. Liam Gallagher’s music reminded me of my brother and my childhood—this was an amazing night. Inside was a food court and a couple of bars. A lot of people were sitting while eating and drinking, others were going inside the arena, so I followed them. I found myself with a lot of people, singing and enjoying the music. The decor was simple, with lots of lightings; all of the musicians were wearing black clothes, including Liam. The audience was excited, drunk and friendly.

Alexandra Palace is a beautiful place to have concerts. It has enough space for holding a huge audience of fans and the whole environment is gorgeous—you get a nice view of London and there is a park surrounding the place. I don’t know much about music and sound engineering, but I felt that the sound wasn’t that good, as I was in the back the music was clear but distant, making my experience not as complete as I was expecting. That was the point I decided to go a little bit nearer the stage, so that I could listen to the music as I was expecting to do, but I only get to the middle of the arena, near to the sitting section; from there I got a nice view and a better sound.

Security was all the time checking people’s actions, mainly because most of the audience was drunk. I felt safe and it made me think about the perfect organisation of the event, preventing bad situations and also trying to keep people safe during the concert. Also, by the end of the event, there were some buses that took people to the nearest station, facilitating a service that I was not expecting.

Something that I completely love about rock concerts in the UK is the amount of ages that you can find in just one place. I got the opportunity to speak with people of my age, also with people that were around the 40’s or even 60’s. This speaks about Liam Gallagher’s influence in music history and in UK’s culture. His performance was simple an amazing, his voice is unique and beautiful and I really really enjoyed being in that concert. Even if the sound didn’t surround the complete arena, his music moved all of the people inside, and the moment of ‘Wonderwall’ was a whole chorus of people singing together as one voice; his music was more than enough for bringing together generations, nationalities, genres and believes. I am happy that I went to this concert and I would love to see him again, if possible in a better venue or nearer to listen to his music properly. I totally believe that people should get the chance to go to his concert and enjoy to his music if they get the chance to do so, is a nice and simple concert, but moving and powerful.
