If you don’t know about “house music,” you may need to ask somebody!

Going to events with “house music” as the central attraction, is one of the things that makes life worth living for me. One reason is because people at these events are genuinely happy and ecstatic about the music. It is pure joy capturing the faces of people as they dance to the beats---expressing themselves and telling a story.

House music came from humble beginnings in the warehouses of Chicago when the founder of the genre, Frankie Knuckles popularized it in the 1980’s. Known as “the Godfather of House,” Knuckles was a DJ, record producer, a remixer and a Grammy winner in 1997 for the “Remixer of the Year: Non classical.”

House Music is beat-driven, with lots of drums and bass that frees your mind, your body and your soul from whatever might be troubling you. House DJ’s layer the music in such a way that can make a slow jam, considerably faster.

There are so many DJ’s producing house music globally, it is hard to keep up with them all. Knuckles was the man who started it all. It’s a good thing he did because the disco era had seen its “better days.”

Naturally, disco evolved into “house music” I for one was excited about the evolution because the art of mixing was taken to a whole new level. For as many DJ’s as there are, that’s how many variation there can be to a popular tune---thanks largely in part to “house music.”

If you happen to be in Brooklyn, NYC on any given weekend during the summer months---you can experience for yourself the awesomeness of “house music” on the Coney Island boardwalk of all places.

Brighton Beach sits right there providing a warm breeze, if it’s not sweltering. As darkness falls, and people become less inhibited you can dance or watch others dance for hours as if nobody’s watching, but there always is.

The beauty of it is nobody is being judged for their dance moves and everybody is happy.

There you will see people from all walks of life enjoying the music. I have seen people in wheelchairs, on crutches and women in burkas dancing to the beats and the rhythm of house.

Some years ago while dancing on the boardwalk, I was sure I saw the late David Bowie shakin’ a tail-feather on that same boardwalk. He was doing the same thing I was---diggin’ the sounds of DJ Ray Vazquez---who is a slave to the rhythm and is always in da mix on the boardwalk.

House Music has become a global phenomenon and continues to explode thanks to the many types of house music such as techno, gospel and world beat.

When it comes to world beat, the rhythm is added to songs in Asian languages, African dialects and any other language known to man.

Then there is “Deep and Dope House” popularized by Canadian DJ Jabig. He has created his own niche in the world of “house music” with his extended mixes. He has compiled a tremendous library of Deep/Dope mixes with such categories as deep and soulful house, lounge house, summer house, etc.

You can check him out all day long on Youtube!

This video from the Tribe/Tambor Cruise 2018 was chosen because it definitely represents---in a profound way ---the essence of “house music.”

Yes, you can actually book a cruise with a house music theme such as the Tribe/Tambor Cruise of 2018.

Alan King who describes himself as “a lawyer by day, a DJ by night” is the maestro in this footage.

From Chicago, King is one of the “Chosen Few” DJ’s from Chicago whose life revolves around “house music.” We were so grateful he was able to join the Tribe/Tambor Cruise 2018 for the second time.

One woman said to me about ‘house music’ on my most recent cruise:

“I don’t drink . . . house music is my salvation!” she can be seen in this video expressing herself very deeply to the music.

House music has been a savior for many people, I am sure.

Most people simply let themselves go. It never disappoints and it is impossible to be angry with anyone or about anything when you’re immersed in “house music.”

Hallelujah!

"Gonna set you free!"
