"Girl Crush"

You know how you will hear a song on the radio and something about it will just speak to you? It will hit you in a place that stirs up a wealth of feelings and emotions.

Well, there is a song that was on Country Radio in the last year or so that has done that to me. My daughter is a big country fan, and the rule in the car is whoever is in the passenger front seat controls the radio, so needless to say she tries to get that seat most often, and that means we hear a lot of country. Not only does she listen to it, she sings it as well in school and voice lessons.

The song is called "Girl Crush." Before anyone complains that it is something it is not, you really need to listen to and read the lyrics. I had to have a long discussion with my cousin who refused to listen to the song until I sat her down and explained the song line by line! Seriously, people, listen before you freak out.

Anyway, the song talks about being so into a guy, but he isn't into you, he is into someone else, and you are so into him that you want to be like or even be the girl he is into. As I listened to this I was pulled back to high school, wondering why a guy was dating a certain girl. Now I have to say that I have never wanted to be like someone else or wanted to change myself to make someone want me, but through all this process, when things don't work out and I talk to someone and things seem to be going great and then, poof they disappear after one meeting, I kind of do feel like the singer, wondering what has everyone else got that I haven't got that makes them so much more desirable.

If I had their hair, or their perfume, or their touch would that be enough? Would I be wanted just as much as they are? This song brings back so many memories from high school and college of feeling not good enough for certain guys. Even now as I am dating again as a single mom, I find myself reliving those same feelings over and over again. This song voices those feelings so much better than I ever could then or even now.

For me, the song isn't about one particular girl that is pulling "him" in and away from me, but it is about the general population of women, what is it that makes them so much better than me. And this goes not just for me meeting people during my high school and college years, but even more so now as I try to date as a single mom of teenagers.

So...here are the lyrics to the song. See if they move you the way they have moved me!!

"Girl Crush"

by: Little Big Town

I got a girl crush

Hate to admit it, but

I got a hard rush

Ain’t slowin down

I got it real bad,

want everything she has

That smile and midnight laugh

she’s giving you now

I wanna taste her lips, yeah,

cause they taste like you.

I wanna drown myself in a bottle of her perfume.

I want her long blonde hair.

I want her magic touch.

Yeah, cause maybe then you’d want me just as much.

I got a girl crush.

I got a girl crush

I don’t get no sleep

I don’t get no peace.

Thinking about her,

under your bed sheets

The way that she’s whisperin’

The way that she’s pullin you in

Lord knows I’ve tried, can't get her off my mind

I wanna taste her lips, yeah,

cause they taste like you.

I wanna drown myself in a bottle of her perfume.

I want her long blonde hair.

I want her magic touch.

Yeah, cause maybe then you’d want me just as much.

I got a girl crush.

I got a girl crush

Hate to admit it, but

I got a hard rush

Ain’t slowin down
