Musical Notes

Music is everything.

Growing up, I heard plenty of music everywhere I went: stores, relatives house, school, movies and most obvious my house. I was into a lot of musical genres so I pretty much heard a bunch of songs about drugs, heartbreak, exes, sex, etc. But something I haven't really noticed while hearing these songs was the story behind every chorus, bridge, and even notes. Many people know the feeling the singer was expressing, the reason they wrote the song but they don't know the power the lyrics hold, the effect a small tune can have on a person.

Songs all around the globe have a story to tell, not just catchy beats and great words that seem to be very relatable. Even music that doesn't have words are able to carry such strong tales behind every note. Just by the name or rhythm, you could already tell the story that will be told or an image of what the song is about. I am in a high school band, and one of the songs we had played this year is called "Black Is the Color." The story behind the song is also written in a poem that talks about the death of an old friend and how the writer will miss him and how sad he was for his passing.

There are even songs that artists write about the tough times they faced when they were children because of their parents fighting or because other children picked on them for being different. Most artists write their songs in a hyped up way so the messages behind the words are blurred and only a few people will be able to hear behind it while others are in such admiration of the beat. Most people try relating to the song from experiences they had faced while others make fun of it. Can't people just stop and listen for just one second?! Can't they just hear their callings and find the damage?! The answer to that is no, they can't.

Hearing music is my way of expressing the emotions I feel inside and it's also my way of getting help. Songs can say a lot about a person's mood, their personality, and who they are. To me, music is my safe haven, a place I can escape to when I'm down, a place where I feel like the words will never leave me to drown. Adults have it hard with bills and stuff but teens have it harder. A teen doesn't need tons of therapy, they just need the right kind of music. They need the perfect harmony.

A lot of people seem to sing along to the words or jam out to the tunes without actually listening to the words itself. Songs about suicide aren't supposed to make people commit it or make the listener sad; it's to tell the artist's story, tell their thoughts, share their experience. Music is also known to bring people closer together at parties and other kinds of events.

Finding the right tune can help a person's bad mood become good. Instead of searching songs that will only make the bad mood worse, just look up songs that are peppy and catchy. Music isn't to make a person get into feelings, music is to express them, show the world who you are with just words in a piece of paper or words with a beat in the background.

Let's stop popping pills and start popping tunes! Just dance with the music! End the words and start the moves! Take a look at the grey then splash the color around. Let the music set you free! Don't watch the world burn, hear it sing! Let the music guide you out of the darkness and into its embrace.
