Reason First: Why Young Thug Is Wrong About Eminem and MGK

The Atlanta rapper errs in declaring a winner of the recent battle.

Young Thug claims that Machine Gun Kelly is the “one guy who murdered” Eminem. This is false and completely irrational. The war of words that the two wordsmiths exchanged in 2018 included some of Eminem’s most inspired and pointed barbs. In one such line, the Detroit rapper asks, “How you gonna name yourself after a gun and have a man bun?”

Rap as Art

In this battle song entitled, “Kill Shot,” Eminem outlines his own success story while highlighting MGK’s inferior rap career. Still, Kelly admits that “Eminem is the greatest rapper alive.” Now for Young Thug to get in between this white hate is somewhat of a quandary. Why is one of the rap game’s mumble rappers even evaluating the two MC’s? To “murder” someone on the track would mean that you demolish his or her morale.

Eminem, in his fourth decade, continues to be going strong. He runs his Shade 45 Sirius XM Radio station, he dropped a surprise album in 2018, and before that he produced the battle rap film entitled Bodied (2017). Kelly has been relatively quiet, apart from a few DJ gigs. As irrational as he can be, Kelly claims to be an anarchist. That’s until a fight breaks out at one of his concerts and he requests the aid of law enforcement and the law courts.

Kelly may have been savvy at least to challenge a hip hop juggernaut like Eminem. He recently appeared in such works as Bird Box (2018) and BigTimeAdolescence (2019). But where’s the music from both of these sentries of the genre? There is definitely a winner in the battle in Eminem, but both MGK and Slim Shady’s careers seem to have stalled. Young Thug’s assertion is too hyperbolic.

An On-Stage Break

While Kelly gave Eminem a decent set of bars, he failed to claim the title of best master of ceremonies (MC). If anything, Kelly gave Eminem a chin check while the latter delivered the devastating blow. Like two warriors entering the arena, they both stood poised to demolish the other in a lyrical fisticuffs. As the winner of the battle, Eminem could claim his status as Chairman of Hip Hop.

The Crowd Moves

His dexterity and rapid fire flow demonstrate the ability for him to “crush his opponents” as he states on “Words Are Weapons” from the 2001 release Devil’sNight. Kelly, however, carries the weight of his native Cleveland on his back with blistering lines of his own when he states that Eminem’s “last four albums [are] as bad as your selfie.”

While Kelly certainly put forth admirable effort, the “Not Afraid” rapper still retains his lofty position. Young Thug is sorely mistaken if he believes that Kelly took the reign way from Mr. Mathers. His idea of who won that battle is clouded by his subjective judgement. He feels that the “Rap Devil” artist is better in battling than MGK's adversarial idol.

To Impress

Young Thug must still be preoccupied about unpaid debts and faulty inspection records concerning the $3 million mansion that he is in the process of selling. The amorphous critique may have lead him to ascertain that Kelly had in fact demolished the “Lose Yourself” MC. Young Thug may need to channel that energy into new forms of expression and stop worrying about whether his house is sold or not. As for Eminem and Kelly, this bit of viciousness propelled by two melanin challenged verbal boxers should enlighten and inspire the next crop of rappers to always fight for themselves in realm so corroded by collectivism.

Crowd Control

The only explanation that could compel Thug to post on Instagram that MGK “murdered” Eminem is the fact that he’s in search of a collaborator to open up his supporter base. His false assertion should teach future artists to think before they snap photos and label them with false truths.

Though Kelly put up a good fight, Eminem remained there to finish off the young rhyme spitter. Can any of that bluster and rage fit inside a $3 million mansion?
