Releasing My First Track: The Journey

The Introduction

There are a lot of firsts for everything. The first time you learnt how to play a chord and then moved on to play "Happy Birthday"—that was a big achievement for a kid who had always wanted to play guitar. Then there was the first time I got nervous on stage. I forgot the lyrics for a song and had to play a few extra riffs to gather myself and calm down.

I have been with several bands: alternative rock, metal, Christian contemporary, and I am also a film composer. I have learnt a lot along the way. Now I’m on the journey to excel in my solo career. With a shoestring budget it’s pretty tough, so I’m doing everything from producing to recording.

The road to fame is riddled with bumps, detours, cracks, etc. Sometimes you have to stop and rethink life. Is this the right thing for you? Is it better to give up your passion for music and just focus on getting a pay cheque and pay your bills? Why can't I do both?

That was a tough question to answer, and it still is. It's hard to be motivated when you work a 9 to 5 and then get home and work on music. Life seems to take precedence and your passions need to be put aside till time permits.

I try my very best to be active in music, composing and writing when I can. I teach guitar as well. That gives me the ability to give back and help others learn how to command an instrument and take heed of their passions to play music and perform. Music is not just notes and sound. It's more than that. For me, it's life. Without music, I do not know how my life would have turned out. I love playing music, I love listening to music, and I love sharing my music.

My mom's side of the family is musical. We have music in our veins, and my grandfather was the patriarch of our family. He made sure that we sang and played every note perfectly. From a very young age, I was in choirs, musicals, and recitals. My grandfather taught me a lot. He taught me to be diligent and most of all achieve perfection and love music. Sad to say he passed away recently but his soul and love for music still lives on in us, his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. I wish I could tell him how much him and his love for music means to me. At the end of his life, he could not remember much due to Alzheimer's, but he remembered music. He still could play notes on the piano It was hard to see him struggle playing those ivory keys but he did it. I miss him but he lives on in the music I write and sing.

My first track is scheduled to debut on the last week of January 2019. I have been working on it for about 10 months! It takes a long time, but I believe that it’s worth it. Music creation is a process. Being a perfectionist, I listen to my song so many times and then go back to working on it. Once it's out there for everyone to hear it's too late to change it. It's better to take your time and fine tune it.

I’m excited to release my track and hopefully share my love for music to the world. Check out my covers and a soundtrack from the international short film I recently did.
