Songs If You Need a Hug

Because sometimes, a good song can help more than anything else

Troye Sivan, one of my favorite artists of all time and extremely inspirational person, singing his song "HEAVEN" in Cologne

Hello there,

from time to time, we all go through some stuff. Whether it is a breakup, a family issue, a feeling of emptiness or depression, or a lack of confidence in yourself, I think we all know some painful moments when we just want to curl into a ball, and have a good cry, and disappear for some time from our every-day stress.

While everybody has different methods to cope with those situations, a lot of people I know, myself included, always turn to music. For me, the music I listen to is directly linked to my emotions, and it can have a huge impact on how I feel on that day.

Although there may be a strong temptation to listen to extremely sad songs that you can relate to at that time and feel sorry for yourself (I am definitely not judging you here, I have been there as well), I learnt that for me, it is more helpful to listen to songs that I still can relate to, but that build up my confidence at the same time again. It is hard to explain which songs I mean, but for me, they say all I need to hear in those situations, even if I didn't know I needed to hear those words.

Over the years, I have made some lists of songs for certain situations. They give me the confidence to carry on, and be proud of who I am, even if I am not perfect. I tried to list songs from different genres, so everyone can find something they can relate to.

Maybe you would like to give them a try and listen to some of those songs. I would love it if they could help even only one other person as much as they helped me.

EMERGENCY SONGS

The most important category has to go first... these are some songs I needed in critical points in my life. You should listen to them when you don't know how to go on any more. I hope they can give you strength and hope to keep on fighting.

  • "Hold On" by Chord Overstreet
  • "Darlin" by Avril Lavigne
  • "Voldemort" by With Confidence
  • "Fallen Angel" by Three Days Grace
  • "Nothing Is Over" by Sunrise Avenue

(Post-Breakup)Confidence Boosters

Whether you need to rebuild your pride after a breakup, or just need a confidence boost to feel content with your appearance, or with who you are, these songs can give you that "I can do anything" feeling. I know there are a lot of Little Mix songs in there, but I promise those are not in there because I am obsessed with the group, but because they do have a lot of songs to build up your confidence, including your body confidence.

Anxiety or panic attack songs

Argh, even writing those words makes me feel uneasy. I hate those sudden attacks, when you feel like you have completely lost control over your mind and your body. I think everybody who suffers from anxiety or panic attacks knows what I am talking about.

These songs have helped me in the past to calm down after a panic attack or to take my mind off the fact that I can't control my body right before an attack. And most importantly, they have shown me that I am not being crazy, and that I am not alone.

  • "EASE" by Troye Sivan
  • "breathin" by Ariana Grande
  • "Eyes on the Highway" by Robbie Williams
  • "A little Braver" by New Empire
  • "Flares" by The Script
  • "Lego House" by Ed Sheeran
  • "I don't belong in this Club" by Why Don't We
  • "Bad Day" by Daniel Powter
  • "Flying High Falling Low" by Walking On Cars
  • "Nothing's Impossible" by Walking On Cars
  • "Hold On" by Chord Overstreet
  • "Antisocial" by Ed Sheeran and Travis Scott

I hope these songs can help you get through a tough time. I really hope you keep your strength to carry on fighting. Please always remember that the world needs you as you are, because without you, an important piece would be missing. I know it sounds cheesy, but it is the truth.
