Separating the Art From the Artist
Recently, Jann Wenner, the co-founder of Rolling Stone magazine and a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation member, released a book entitled “The Masters”. This book featured his interviews with rock legends who have become his friends. There is no arguing the influence the subjects of this book have had on Rock music. However, when questioned why there were no Blacks or women, his flippant, obnoxious, and frankly stupid response negated two demographics of rock 'n' roll's history as if they did not matter. He took his experience, privilege, and influence to brush off legends - whether he chose to acknowledge them or not - that built his career. It was an unfortunate reminder of how someone we hold in high regard can disappoint us in such a poignant and profound way.

Introduction I am listening to "Catching A Tiger" by Lissie, and probably my favorite song on this album "Cuckoo" and I will use it to close this playlist. It also made me think of this wonderful poignant poem by my great friend Les, who tells me that she can't write poetry, but check out all this wonderful poetry of hers, and this one in particular that relates to this playlist.

Yesterday afternoon, my daughter came home with a homework assignment for her Mississippi Studies class. She was asked to pick a famous person who came from Mississippi to write a paper about. Of course there's no shortage of celebrities from here. Oprah, Jim Henson, Jimmy Buffett, and of course, the king himself, Elvis all had their beginnings in this small state in the south.

Introduction This is lifted from a Seven Days In Post written two years before Scott Walker died but has been getting a few views. The man was the epitome of a true artist so was not to everyone's taste, but I find his work absolutely amazing.

Today’s entry takes us back in time. There are still those living who were there when it released, but most of who lives today will have likely had little experience with someone like Dean Martin. The year was 1959 when Sleep Warm was hitting the radio waves, and it features Martin in somewhat of a subdued and reflective mood. The track list is fashioned something like a set of soft lullabies, a great choice for anyone who is feeling drowsy (or wants, to feel drowsy).
