Some Good Jams to Accompany Your Wanderlust and Need for Change

Downtown Portland

To be honest, this is the only thing keeping me from buying the next plane ticket out of Portland. As much as I love my life right now, being at university, seeing my friends and boyfriend everyday, playing lacrosse, something in me is always wanting to be on the move. I sit in lecture thinking of backpacking in the Wallowa Mountains, sipping coffee in Australia, or train rides through Germany.

I made this playlist in order to keep me rooted for the time being, while allowing my mind to wander in all the places I wish I could be. It's a little nostalgic, sad, exciting, and everything in between. While it will continue to grow, here is what I have so far.

1. "The Girl" - City and Colour

A classic, this song gets me every time while I'm off chasing my own dreams.

2. "current location" - LANY

Up and coming artist LANY writes of the girl who failed to mention of her spontaneous travels.

3. "Hometown Girl" - ZHU

It gives me comfort in that no girl compares to his hometown girl. Being home has its perks.

4. "Mercy" - Lewis Capaldi

This sad anticipation of a breakup reminds me change is hard.

5. "Megan" - Bayside

A throwback, this song makes me long to ride trains again and show up at the platform for Anthony Raneri.

6. "New Year RAC Remix" - Two Door Cinema Club

I heard this version before I ever heard the original, so this one holds more weight of memories of my time in Australia. I'll be home next year, Mom.

7. "Blackbird" - The Beatles

Just trying to learn to fly.

8. "Warwick Avenue" - Duffy

Her vocals and courage make me want to find this Warwick Ave.

9. "I'd Go With You Anywhere" - Birds of Tokyo

"If we stay we'll never leave..." are not the best lyrics to be going through your head while trying to find motivation for school.

10. "Lover Come Back" - City and Colour

Yes, City and Colour make another appearance in this playlist. But how could they not? They'll always come back.

11. "Call It Home" - Cinders

I found this song on a playlist my boyfriend has dedicated to me. I think he's worried about me.

12. "Suitcase" - The New Electric Sound

This song makes me want to pack up and go to the beach right now.

13. "Denim Jacket" - Maroon 5

I like to wear my denim jacket on weekend adventures and such. This song just seemed right.

14. "Lay It On Me" - Kasbo, Keiynan Longsdale

Though this song is newer, it reminds me of summer nights during high school.

15. "Sleep On the Floor" - The Lumineers

I love this song. And The Lumineers. And traveling. I will pack my toothbrush and favorite blouse right now. Pick me up in 5.

16. "Liability" - Lorde

Lorde's second album is about her finding her way through the world on her own now, and she just makes it sound so beautiful.

17. "Sofia..." - Leland Blue

I don't know how I happened upon this band, considering they are extremely small right now, but they have me wondering where Sofia went too.

18. "Off She Goes" - Bad Suns

Last but not least, this song is the epitome of everything I feel. Where should I go?

This list will continue to grow along with my wanderlust. This may actually perpetuate my problems, but these songs are all so good, I don't even mind.

Here is a link to the playlist if you would like to listen to all of these, which I highly recommend you do.

Feel free to share any song suggestions you have!

My cat looks out the window the same way I do.
