Manchester, Tennessee is home to about 10,000 people. However, one weekend in June the population increases by 100,000. The Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival has been hosted by the beautiful city of Manchester since 2001. Ever since then, thousands of festival-goers flock to "The Farm" every summer to see phenomenal concerts performed by the biggest names in music.

Affectionately known as "Roo", Bonnaroo is a festival that pushes sustainability and environmentalism. Campers are encouraged to recycle, food and drink are sold in organic materials, and the festival initiates many "green" activities and classes. Huge water fountains are strategically placed amongst the stages and Centeroo so concertgoers can refill their reusable water bottles and backpacks. Bonnaroo is about friendship, saving the Earth, and expressing yourself fearlessly.

As well as bringing popular artists onto the farm, Bonnaroo is a hub for up and coming musicians as well. Upon reading the lineup, I usually know the headliners and that's about it. The magical part of Bonnaroo is going into the warm familiarity of Centeroo, and hearing new music and sounds all night long. Bonnaroo is adored and enjoyed by fans of rap, alternative, indie, folk, EDM, dance, country, and many more genres. There are different stages known for their specific styles of music. Affectionately termed the "Which Stage", "What Stage", "That Tent", "This Tent", and "The Other", there is a choice for every festival-goer. Consequentially, discussing which stage/tent to go to is hilarious.

Even the Bonnaroo campgrounds are unique and special. The campgrounds are themed and packed with help and information, secret concerts, food, and cool shops. You set up your camp a mere two feet away from your neighbor. You walk to the bathrooms and showers. It's like camping, but a step above. Every Bonnaroo camper decorates their campsite in a super cool way. Hanging lights and tapestries are the norm. There are also other options! Groop camp with your huge friend group, or camp next to your car. If you're fancy, you can even Glamp. There are sooo many choices.

So with this brief background information, here is how experiencing Bonnaroo can change your life.

The Bonnaroo environment is all about living your life in a positive, sustainable, and fun way. EVERYONE at the festival is helpful and friendly! You forgot sunscreen? Ask your neighbor! Want a high five on your way into Centeroo? Just put your hand out! Help and advice are everywhere at Bonnaroo, you just simply need to smile. After attending Bonnaroo, I started becoming more environmentally conscious. I started being less materialistic. I use my reusable water bottle every day! Just simply thinking about your place in space and how you can positively affect the environment will get you in the right headspace.

Bonnaroo is supposed to be FUN, and it rubs off on you when you get home. It's a festival where there is no judgment. You can dance, dress, sing, and express yourself however you please. I danced my ass off at Bonnaroo! I didn't care who was watching. Someone will dance with you. I sang the songs I loved at the top of my lungs. I made friends that way. There are interactive art and writing experiences. The music and arts festival is so impactful.

I'm not here to try and sell tickets to next year's festival. (Which is June 13-16 in 2019 by the way). I am trying to sell a new way of life. The last two summers on the farm I gained confidence and tested my limits in an exciting space. I also relaxed and chilled out. The five days are yours to do whatever you want. It's a break from the hectic everyday life. There is no wrong or right way to do Bonnaroo. I can guarantee it will change your life.

There are many resources to get you ready for your journey if you choose to embark on it! There are subreddits, Twitter accounts, and a TON of online forums. Experienced veterans are just around the corner if you have questions.

I hope I see you in Tennessee next summer!
