The Only Person That Can Stop XXXTentacion is XXXTentacion

Despite having a successful album this summer, the talented rapper is swamped in legal and immaturity issues.

"X" is the most polarizing figure in rap right now.

This situation is sad. It sucks. It hurts.

There's really no other way to put it. For the case of up-and-coming rapper XXXTentacion, it's a fear that we are going to see a young star burn up before he really got to shine.

XXXTentacion, whose real name is Jahseh Onfroy, broke out last year with his hit single "Look At Me!" and just dropped an extremely successful album, 17. The debut album sold 87,000 copies in its first week, which was good for number two on the Billboard 200 chart. The album saw seven songs reach the Hot 100, including his highest peaking song "Jocelyn Flores" at No. 31.

An album that focuses on depression, anxiety, and mental health is not supposed to do this well on the charts. It's just not. The numbers showcase XXXTentacion's special talent for creating music.

The project as a whole is as moving as it is concise. It's real, it's raw. 17 represents all of the positives that XXXTentacion has shown throughout his career. X does not beat around the bush either, with the intro, "The Explaination," straight up telling the audience "by listening to this album, you are literally, and I cannot stress this enough, literally entering my mind. And if you are not willing to accept my emotion and hear my words fully, do not listen." It's not an album based off speculation or ideas. It's an album based off experience and pain. And it's incredible.

XXXTentacion's legal situation puts his whole career in jeopardy.

X has been in and out of legal trouble since 2014, when he was in a youth detention center for a year on gun possession charges. There was also an incident involving X apparently breaking-and-entering the home of Che Thomas and robbing him at gunpoint. Those charges were recently suspended, and as long as X completes six years of probation, cleared from his record. Complex gives other details of the probation sentence, which includes "among a series of requirements, the probation order states that Onfroy will not violate any law, possess a firearm or weapon, associate with any persons engaged in criminal activity, or visit places where drugs are used. If he manages to complete this strict probation, the charges will effectively disappear and Onfroy’s record will be clear."

2016 saw another turn for the worse in XXXTentacion's behavior. On October 8th, Jahseh Onfroy was arrested by Sweetwater Police. His charges: Aggravated Battery of a Pregnant Victim and False Imprisonment.

According to the arrest report, Onfroy "punched and kicked victim on 10-06-2016 at approximately 2330 HRS. Victims both eyes were punched to where both eyes became shut and victim could not see. A hoodie and sunglasses where put on victim in order to get her out of apartment complex avoiding anyone seeing her. Victim escaped from new location and contacted the nearest police department, Miami Beach."

While X has not been found guilty of the charges, the accusations against against XXXTentacion are horrendous. On September 8th, Pitchfork obtained pieces of the testimony from the alleged victim of XXXTentacion's case. The details are gut-wrenching, numbing, and downright disturbing.

According to the testimony, Onfroy and the alleged victim lived together near Miami in May of 2016. That same month, "Jahseh allegedly slapped the victim and damaged her iPhone for complimenting a male friend's jewelry. That same day, Jahseh made the victim choose between 'a barbecue pitchfork and a barbecue cleaner' being put inside her vagina," explained a piece on the situation by BET. "After the two moved to Orlando in July 2016, Jahseh is said to have threatened the victim's life "literally like every day." At one point, Jahseh allegedly head-butted, punched, stomped, and kicked the woman after she hummed along to a song by an unnamed artist during a car ride. He also allegedly threatened to cut out her tongue."

According to Pitchfork, Onfroy also “broke a good 30 hangers on my legs,” the victim testified, while also allegedly holding her head under the faucet in the bathtub, running the water while trying to cut her hair.

The victim learned that she was pregnant with X's child sometime in early October of 2016. In response, Onfroy told her, “You need to tell me the truth right now or I’ll kill you and this jit.” (Jit is slang for unborn child.)

Onfroy took the victim in the bathroom where she would vomit from the excessive and repetitive hitting, head-butting, kneeing, and elbowing. Onfroy threatened to kill her right there in the bathroom. The victim stated she could not even recognize herself in the mirror.

The victim then found herself locked in a room inside an apartment that she had never been in before. While X allegedly bragged about how she would be homeless if she left him, the victim could not find a way out of the apartment. Her phone was confiscated by X and the windows had bars on them. She finally found an unlocked side door the next day, asked a stranger to use their phone, then got a ride to the police station.

In between the main events of the testimony, there is (seemingly) physical abuse present everyday of the relationship. The amount of times that it is recored in the testimony that XXXTentacion "strangled," "hit," "slapped," "head-butted," or "stomped" the victim is sickening.

The worst part? X has not seemed to learn his lesson or grasp how dire this situation is.

The Instagram presence that XXXTentacion struts is quite significant. At the time of this article's posting, the young musician has 3.6 MILLION followers, while following zero people, and sporting zero posts at the moment. Of course, X deletes his posts from time to time. When he does post, though, to his timeline or story, it is usually disastrous.

Complex explains X's lack of awareness on Instagram. "X's response includes threats to anyone who called him a 'domestic abuser,'" wrote Trace William Cowen. X also mocked feminists, told publications not to cover him, and—in a clip captioned "I only beat the p*ssy"—said, "If you want your pussy domestically abused, hit my line." In other clips, X claimed people were just mad at him for being successful and repeatedly screamed 'suck my d***!' at the camera."

The antics of Instagram are just part of a long list of immaturity that will derail XXXTentacion's career if he does not wake up soon. He even flips two middle fingers to the case in his feature on Kodak Black's new single "Roll In Peace":

I ain’t gon' do the n*gga shit 'cause I’m too good for features, huhI ain’t gon’ fuck the n*gga bitch 'cause I know she a eater, huhLast time I wifed a bitch she told the world I beat her, huhAnd when they locked Lil Kodak up, my n*gga I couldn’t believe it, huhAyy lil' shorty, pop my whoadyPockets on Pinocchio, poking yuhHit her from the back, damn that bitch bleedingSaid I knocked her period onRemember when I had that poker, huhInstead of looking over my shoulder, huhForcing with a n*gga, no YodaThat mean a young n*gga got what on me?

Well let's see. "Last time I wifed a bitch, she told the world I beat her" is an obvious shot at the defendant in X's case. "Hit her from the back, damn that bitch bleeding / Said I knocked her period on" can easily be seen as an abusive behavior for a guy that is going to be on trial for such a thing. Then finally, "Remember when I had that poker, huh / Instead of looking over my shoulder, huh" sounds an awful lot like the stomach-wrenching accusation of Onfroy making the victim choose between a barbecue pitchfork and a barbecue cleaner.

It is these type of things, the unnecessary jokes, shots, or insecure jabs that X takes at "his haters" that always puts himself in messier situations than he needs to be in.

It hurts that this could be a way-too-soon end for XXXTentacion because, based on musical talent in a vacuum, he is as good as it gets. His raw emotion and genuine personality in 17 speaks to millions of people around the word that deal with depression each and every day. The end of the intro, "The Explanation" is a bright sign of what could be:

Here is my pain and thoughts put into wordsI put my all into this, in the hopes that it will help cure or at least numb your depression I love youThank you for listeningEnjoy

XXXTentacion's trial is set to begin October 5th.
