TRNSMT
The First Festival—Both on Their Part and Mine
My first plane journey, my first visit to Scotland and my first festival. A little over a year ago now, I went to the first-ever TRSNMT festival up in Glasgow, with the likes of Radiohead and George Ezra performing.
It is easy to say there's a good few reasons I chose this festival in particular.
I'm not much of a camper and this wasn't a camping festival, allowing me to get all grubby and have fun during the day and night to safely return to a nice warm shower and bed in a local Travelodge, ready to do it all over again the next day. Perfect for my extra hygienically-aware self.
The second reason being its location, as Glasgow was the furthest I've ever travelled from my little home in South Wales. Although a slightly passive-aggressive city, Glasgow had a ton of stuff to offer and I'd definitely visit again!
The third, and main reason you should choose to go to any festival—the music. TRNSMT (supposedly pronounced "transmit") had a huge range of artists to choose from, with their main stage and smaller King Tut's stage playing a number of upcoming bands—many of whom I wish I'd gone to see at the time!
I was surprised at who I loved watching live and how some people performed. I ended up in a moshpit for both Kasabian and Circa Waves - both very, very different experiences, and nearly fell asleep at Radiohead's set. This being said in the nicest way possible. I love their music, they just dominate my "Go to Sleep" playlist.
George Ezra and the Kooks came out being my favourites—I've always loved the Kooks but were unaware of how well they were able to hype up a bigger crowd and I'd never properly listened to Ezra's stuff, just bits and bobs I'd heard on the radio. He provided the happiest, feel-good set and I don't think I'll see anyone for a very, very long time that can top that.
