Velvet Winter's Crystal Heart is Amazing

This is music for your soul

While I am still confused as to why solo singer/songwriter artists feel the need to use anything but their actual name for recording and performing, I am still in awe of Velvet Winter, which is Talon Majors (I think her actual name is the way cooler option). I had this discussion with my boyfriend the other day, who performs under his own name, Dale Wicks. Maybe it’s just that everyone wants to be the next Trent Reznor/NIN, who knows!?

Anyway, on to the music. “Crystal Heart” is a song that Majors dropped a month ago on YouTube as her new single, as Velvet Winter. The video itself is amazing and deserves some words all its own. It’s a very eclectic video with fire performances, nature, and so much more. It’s pleasing to the eyes and the mind, while the song itself is pleasing to the ears.

First, read the lyrics

Found me in the shadows

Watchin' a wicked storm roll by

Carried by the heartbeat

Of ten million past lives

My crystal heart is breaking

I can feel it in my veins

Bleeding like the roses

They will never be the same

So please guard my crystal heart

As we lay under the stars

Wild animals we are

No we can't be very far

I'm searchin' in the dark

Searchin'

Searchin' in the dark

Reach a little deeper

Find the fire in my soul

If we run forever

You and me we'll make it home

You and me we'll make it home

You and me we'll make it home

You and me we'll make it home

You and me

So please guard my crystal heart

As we lay under the stars

Wild animals we are

No we can't be very far

I'm searchin' in the dark

Searchin' for so long

Find me in the shadows carried by a heartbeat

Find me in the shadows carried by a heartbeat

Find me in the shadows carried by a heartbeat

Find me in the shadows

So please guard my crystal heart

As we lay under the stars

Wild animals we are

No we can't be very far

I'm searchin' in the dark

Searchin' for so long

Now watch/listen

The song is a beautifully done piece of work. It has that rock edge to it, and Majors’ has an amazing voice, you won’t be able to stop listening and when the song ends you’ll feel like it ended too soon (I did). I am really anxious to hear more music from Velvet Winter.

The fact that Majors is beautiful makes the video even more watchable, but I was intrigued already with the fire and water aspects of it. The thing is, not only is she a talented vocalist and obviously beautiful, but she also has a good soul. Because she has battled abuse and addiction herself in life she hopes “to connect with people with troubled pasts whether it's drug abuse, eating disorders, sexual orientation and others. My heart goes out to people with depression, PTSD and other illnesses that you can't see on the surface." As someone that has suffered both PTSD and depression, plus numerous anxiety issues, I am thrilled to have such a talented person advocating for these mental illnesses. There is still such a stigma.

Majors got her musical start as a drummer in her teenage years. Thank goodness she explored further in the world of music in order to discover that edgy and powerful voice of hers. If you want to hear something amazing in the world of music you should definitely give this song a listen. I think it’s one of the best things I have heard this year, so far.
