Wisdumb is an indie rap group headed by Giovanni Quattrochi. Gio grew up on the Upper West Side of Manhattan and attended Eleanor Roosevelt High School, and was a Posse Scholar at Trinity College ‘12-‘16. Gio started Wisdumb with his childhood friend, Tom, when the two of them started competing in slam poetry competitions around NYC. Gio's introduction to hip-hop began when he was 4 years old, and listened to the soundtrack to Eminem’s 8-Mile on his walkman. Wisdumb takes influence from Eminem, and other rappers like MF DOOM, who perform under the pretense of a fictional persona. The biggest influence for Wisdumb is Kanye West, specifically his ability to juxtapose complex, sensitive subject matter with popular music and culture. Kanye started by doing this with "Jesus Walks", and continues to do it today with the topic of mental health. Wisdumb takes his experiences with mental health, and other obstacles he has faced, and puts it in the creative aspect of his music.

Wisdumb aims to give everyone a good time with his music, but also discuss the more serious side of his music.

Amanda Gabrielle: What made you want to become a music artist?

Wisdumb: I went to a New York City public school and wanted attention/validation that I was cool. That evolved into a need to create and make an impact. Now I have a public platform where I can speak my mind, and contribute artistically.

What inspires you when you’re writing?

Lots of things. Advertisements, specifically those that use phrases. Pop culture, as it applies to anything (music, movies, etc.) that is compelling across different cultures.

Do you have any artists who have inspired your art?

Kanye, with his ability to juxtapose sensitive topics with popular music ("Jesus Walks," "Diamonds From Sierra Leone," "New Slaves"). I relate to the fact that he’s an open book. Sometimes the press is negative, sometimes it’s positive, but it’s all there.

Atmosphere in their ability to tell a story.

MF DOOM for his ability to mix abstract ideas with hard hitting punchlines.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I would love to direct a bio-pic about the rappers of my generation, after releasing a bunch of my own music. At the rate I’m going, 10-12 mixtapes/albums.

What has been the biggest obstacle you have overcome thus far?

Connecting with people and staying present after my mom passed.

If you can describe your music, what would you say?

A little bit of smart stuff, a little bit of dumb stuff. A whole lot of both stuff.

If you could describe your music in one word using a food, what would it be?

Dragon Fruit.

What advice would you give your 13 year old self?

Relate, don’t compare.

What can we expect from you moving forward?

Expect less, stay in the moment, and appreciate what you have. Also, music videos.

Wisdumb is quickly making his way to our playlists and our car’s AUX. This artist is leaving a huge impact on the NYC music scene, while playing more and more shows as the days go on. It is very rare to find someone who can be a mixture of all your favorite artists. Wisdumb takes pop culture, your favorite songs, and his own taste while giving you exactly what you needed to hear. Being as relatable as he is, his music has a little bit of everything for everybody. Take a chance and have a listen. Wisdumb recently released “West Virginia,” and it has been a huge hit! Stay tuned for everything he has coming.
