Old You Vs. Current You: Getting Yourself Healthy (While Still Getting Your Fun On)
Today when I was getting my grocery shopping done, I thought of how I like having some kind of fruit juice and a carbonated drink (like Sprite or seltzer) and that does it for me on a Saturday night. It's basically a non-alcoholic drink that I'll have, (with some crushed ice because why not), along with some popcorn and chips. That's my party thing. I compare that to myself 5 years ago, when I would have about two alcoholic drinks (and a lot more chips), and then feel like shit the next day. It got me thinking, gee, I really love not drinking anymore. But besides that, taking care of yourself is the most important decision you can make. And the best part is, you don't have to do much to make smart choices. I'm not here to get you ready to get the gym bag ready or whip out the weights, I'm just here to talk about small choices that make big differences.

Perfect Songs || “Perfect” Songs (And Are They “Perfect”?)
W h o o s h. Like a shot of euphoria (or heroin, really, from the film Trainspotting [which this song is featured in]), a wave of instant calm washes over you and you’re immediately put to ease. There’s country/western twang in there, but it’s not overtly country territory; it’s just there to add character to an otherwise otherworldly soundscape. The muddled, gentle plodding bass adds hypnotic quality to the mix. This, to me, is a perfect song. ‘Deep Blue Day’, created by Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois (originally on Apollo: Atmospheres & Soundtracks), is a lush, atmospheric, dreamy in utero ambient piece. It’s perfect to me, because put simply, it evokes emotion (calmness, laid back happiness, reflection, and total nostalgia.) Nostalgia and this song probably go hand in hand for most people. It’s instantly or most notably recognizable from the memorable sequence in Trainspotting, where the lead character Renton swims through a rather hellacious sewage sea…within a toilet. Pretty juxtaposition, given the tone of the song, and his unfortunate desperation to get a bag of heroin.

To Cut or Not to Cut
With summer just around the corner, shopping for a new bikini, getting your workouts in and sunny climes are on your mind. There's also though that one extra nagging feeling... you know the one. It's probably been lingering for years, and you are slightly apprehensive about actually doing it. "Maybe I'll just take a few off on the ends, and see how I feel about it" you tell yourself. If you're brave and consider it "just hair," more than likely you're the friend in the group who's rocking a short haircut - or should be.

Sky Vettel's 'Sin From a New Perspective'
A Native New Yorker, electronic musician Sky Vettel is creating what she calls "concept music" - pieces which evoke imagery, emotions, new thoughts and feelings. "Isn't that pretty much all music? Unless it's what's being played on the radio," she says. To her, it's slightly hifalutin but it's to the point and something easy to comprehend upon hearing it. "I want people - all types - to be able to enjoy something. You can't make everybody happy. I don't want to make everybody happy. But I think there's something for everyone." The 26-year-old has a catalogue of over 30 songs - from soothing, relaxing, progressing ambient soundscapes, to gritty smoky, urban trip hop, to upbeat, disco house - and she's not slowing down. "I'm very busy writing new material right now. I'm really trying to create stuff that's improved from my last works... you can't rush organic improvement, but you can certainly work hard at it. I'm excited at the progress in this moment, as well as the anticipation of what's to come with this." What type of music styles would you expect to hear this time around? "There's a bit of hip hop, tech house, and maybe even doo wop, oddly enough," she says. "I've always loved doo wop and just the noodling around with the 50's chord progression on the keyboard made me extremely excited!" What else excites her? "Being in the moment, enjoying everything, and of course, people's response to my music and how they feel, that's great. I definitely want to keep impressing people and make more music that they love."
