So along with Kodak Black’s album I just reviewed, A$AP Ferg’s new project, Still Striving, also dropped on Friday, August 18.

So, unlike Kodak Black, who I listened to a decent amount prior to reviewing his new project, I hadn’t really listen to any of A$AP Ferg’s music before. I mean, I have listened to this music a few times whenever a music video of his popped up on YouTube, but other than that I wouldn’t say that I knew a lot about his music. So, this review will be the first time I listen to more than a couple of his songs and the first time I’m listening to the whole project of his.

Since I had no clue of really what to expect or any hope for what will be brought to the table for this project, I came into the listening of Still Striving with no real expectations other than hopes that it would be good enough to listen to and that I would have discovered a new artist to start following.

I listened to half of the album on Friday when it dropped and then I listened to the other half today when I had time. The first song that I listened to was “Trap and A Dream” Ft. Meek Mill. I like the song which immediately made me excited to listen to the rest of the album to see what was in store because the song was fast-paced and very hyped and I could eventually see it being played in a club setting as a new banger. This is one of my favorite songs off of this album, but like most albums that people listen to, you always have songs that you dislike as well.

Three songs that I didn’t like were “Aww Yeah" ft. Lil Yachty, “Coach Cartier" Ft. Famous Dex, and “The Mattress Remix" Ft. A$AP Rocky, Playboi Carti & Famous Dex. The reason why I didn’t like “Aww Yeah” was mainly that the chorus wasn’t good and it contained the normal things talked about hip-hop over and over, which are jewels and girls while repeating Lil Yachty and A$AP Ferg's name, which got old quick. The same goes for “Coach Cartier.” The course was bland as well, which made me not even care about what they said in the verse. And finally, my last least favorite song on this album was, “The Mattress Remix.” Like I said before, I didn’t know much about A$AP Ferg’s music so I have never heard the original version of the song, but I don’t think that would’ve mattered if I had listened to it because the chorus on the song was bad and normally the original and the remakes have the same exact chorus. Sometimes, I can listen to choruses as long as the verses are good but in these three examples, the chorus was just so bad that I really didn’t care about the verses. I’m not saying that the whole album was garbage, but for me, these three songs, I could’ve lived without.

As for my top three songs off of this album, it has to be, “Trap and A Dream” Ft. Meek Mill, “What Do You Do?” Ft. Nav, and “Plain Jane.” I already spoke on why I liked “Trap and A Dream,” but as for the other two songs, I liked “What Do You Do?” because of the banger chorus that Nav came through with and just how chill the vibe of the whole song is. I liked “Plain Jane” because of the hype, the lyrics are good, and it just honestly has great bass for when you’re driving in the car, booming down the street.

Overall, there were parts of this album that were good but also parts of it that were bad as well. But for me, most of this album I liked overall compared to the parts that I didn’t like. So, if I was going to give it a rating on a scale of one to ten I would probably give it a six. And my reasoning behind giving it only a six is because of the songs where the chorus was so bad and in some songs that were just okay. Listen if you're just in the mood to hear some A$AP Ferg, but there weren’t many great songs in my opinion.
