Bands to Look Out For

Missing Indie Music

Ottawa: The Band is something to look out for in music. Their sound resemble something of the early Arkells with a bit of Two Door Cinema Club. Their upbeat sound is what makes them seem like the perfect band to listen to. I have tried to look them up online, but unfortunately, they are still one of the many bands that are undercover. I can tell that they will be big though because of the resemblance of the two bands mixed together. Their songs, though, when listening to them, sound fresh and like you will learn the lyrics and be singing them at their concert. The song that pulled me in was "Undercover" because of the way the music swells when it is reaching the chorus. This makes their music fun and thrilling to listen to and I bet every listener can picture themselves at this concert and enjoying their new unique sound while screaming the lyrics at the top of your lungs.

If you are looking for more bands like Coin or Foster the People, then listen up because this is your band and it is called Bay Ledges. Bay Ledges is an alternative band from Los Angeles that started out as an after-school activity, which then grew from there. However, their sound is very rare to come by. They are mostly known as indie-pop and it is rare to find such a good band in this genre.

The Brevet reminds me of Mumford and Sons. When first listening to their song "Moving Mountains," it sounds like Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes, but then you hear the new and unique sound of the lead singer Aric Chase Damm, who brings this band to a whole new level. I have never heard anything so extraordinary in a guy's voice. It is soft yet strong and that is a rare quality to find, especially in today's bands. The strong lead's voice is a surprise because of his appearance, but I'm pretty sure since The Voice came out on television, we have learned to not judge a book by its cover. This band is one to look for at upcoming events in your area because it guaranteed you will want to buy their album and obsess over it.

Dancing on Tables—I don't even know where to start. This is something I definitely want to hear more of. They have a fun sound to their music that tells you you will never get sick of hearing them. You think their music is going one way, but then you listen on and it catches you off guard and not in a way where you want to throw their cd across the floor, but in a way where you want to lay on the floor and listen to the different songs they came up within one album. They made a weird combination work and it sounds so nostalgic and new at the same time. This takes a genius to create what they have.

Telehope—If you are a fan of artists such as Andy Grammar or even Daughter then you may want to pay attention to this band. The reason I say Daughter is because of the similar guitar chords that Daughter uses and with an Andy Grammar flare, they have created a whole new meaning to the word Indie. The band members are also relatively young and to achieve what they have at that age is remarkable. In their music videos, you can sense their passion for music. This band needs to be noticed right away.
