The Door
The door stands open in front of you. You peek into its gaping maw, one hand firmly clutching the blanket gifted by some great-aunt or cousin - one whose universe won’t touch yours again until the day your best friend straightens your tie. Beyond the shimmering threshold you glimpse a brand new bicycle. You glimpse a massive pile of leaves in an enchanted forest. You glimpse the wellspring of imagination. You glimpse the essence. Before you can drop your ward, the familiar dragon emerges from its cave, and, with a roar that shatters the silence into a hundred jagged shards, he chars the door’s ornate frame with 200,000 years of hindsight.

Aliens
It started with the lights – harsh and blinding lights that dropped from the heavens three days ago. The ships behind them were black, growling beasts that began to ravage the jungle the moment they touched the ground. Plants were trampled, trees were uprooted, and my village was completely destroyed. Some of us got out in time; sprinting to outpace the monstrous ships and taking refuge deep in the jungle. Most did not.

Celebrating Pride Month...From the Closet
I discovered I was bisexual in 2013, when I drunkenly attempted to convince a girl on a cruise to come back to my room. My fiancé was sitting next to me, and - needless to say - he had questions. So did I. I’d always held the view that LGBTQIA+ relationships were no different than hetero relationships, and I guess it just took me 19 years to realize that it held true for me personally as well.

Dear Gemini
To My Beautiful Daughter, I know there’s still a long time that will feel much too short before you know or care about your Gemini horoscope, but as your second birthday approaches and we enter your season I can’t help but wonder what your future will hold.

A Glimpse of Hope
You’re only three feet away. The only things physically separating us are the table we bought on our first trip to IKEA, the chipped plates and mottled silverware that are smudged with the remnants of dinner, and the heavy, unquiet air. You’re only three feet away. Why does it feel like there’s an ocean between us?

To the Young Woman Whose Ass I Drunkenly Smacked
To the young woman whose ass I drunkenly smacked on the people-mover at Universal four years ago: I’m so, so sorry. It was my birthday weekend and I had spent the night at Rising Star in City Walk singing karaoke with my husband and a few friends. To say I was drunk is an understatement – I barely remember our interaction that night. What I do remember, however, is extremely cringeworthy.

A Date With a Princess
Nathan stood there on the doorstep, fidgeting. He twisted and rolled the end of his striped, navy tie, he picked at a stray thread on his jacket cuff, and he felt a bead of sweat begin its journey down from his brow. He was so timorous, so nervous for their first date, yet he couldn’t really say why.

Relicta No More
May 15th, 2016 Well today my fiancé found a kitten at work, though calling it a kitten paints a false picture of sweet purrs and adorable paws. This is a 200-pound tiger disguised as a two-pound orange tabby. This is a demon that was accidentally summoned by some teenagers with an Ouiji board and got relegated to the body of this kitten. This creature is as feral as they come.
